Sending a Crash Log for an iOS device on a Mac

A crash log is a file which contains information about what the app was doing right before a crash. They can be very helpful in figuring out why an app is crashing, so if we ask for a log, please follow these steps to generate one and send it to Mediafly.

Connect your iOS device to your Mac. Launch iTunes. Sync your iOS device with iTunes.

  • Be sure to take note of your device's name (Top left corner in iTunes), we will need it later.

Open finder. Select "Go" from the top menu bar

Choose the "Go to Folder" option from the menu.

A window will open with a prompt, "Go to the folder": In the field, type: "~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice/<device name>"

  • <device name> = the name of your iOS device (found in iTunes).

Here you will see a list of files. Look for a filename that starts with "derivative" and ends with your iOS device's name. Then look for "date modified". Find the file that was modified at the approximate time that your app crashed. You will be attaching this file to an email.

Address an email to Attach the crash log to the email. Be sure to include "Crash Log" in the subject line and include the app name and version number in the body of the email. Send.
