Managing Permissions Inheritance

We recently released enhancements intended to give Airship admins more visibility and control over permission inheritance and breakage.  These enhancements include:

  • Inheritance option added to column selector
  • User Access tab contains additional insight and options for permission management
  • Permissions Change Notifier on folders

INHERITANCE OPTION ADDED TO COLUMN SELECTOR

There is a new column available in a folder's Items table (1) called Inheritance (2).  This column gives an admin visibility into whether individual items inherit permissions from their Parents, or if they break inheritance with their own explicit permissions.

Example of an individual item breaking inheritance with their own explicit permissions:

ADDITIONAL INSIGHTS AND MANAGMENT OPTIONS WITHIN USER ACCESS TAB

The User Access tab now contains an info bar telling the admin if:

  •   The item itself has a different permission set from it's Parent (1)
  •   Any of its Children contain a different permission set than the current folder (available on folders only) (2)

If Child permissions are different, the user can update all children to once again inherit permissions from their Parents (available on folders only).

PERMISSIONS CHANGE NOTIFIER

If a user tries to make a change to permissions on a folder, the admin will be prompted if any Children already contain their own explicit permissions.  They will be given the option to either:

  •   Apply the new changes to all Children (1)
  •   Don't change items that have different permissions (the traditional default behavior of the system) (2)
